Most people in Southern California drive cars to get around. There are also those on motorcycles, or using car or van pools, plus a few bike riders. About 5% of residents in San Diego County use public transit to go to work, stores, banks, and other destinations. The Metropolitan Transit System operates buses, and trolleys In San Diego, East County, National City, and Chula Vista. The workers are all members of unions except those in administration.
Drivers have been on strike for better pay and working conditions since Wednesday, May 24. The end of the strike is unknown at the time I’m writing.
This strike is dismal news for thousands of bus riders who depend on the buses to go to work, stores, banks, and other destinations. Than means there have been thousands of people waiting at bus stops for buses which don’t appear. A few are able to obtain rides from friends, or family members though that isn’t always available, or prompt. Many passengers have been friendly with bus drivers in the past. Will amicable relations resume between the bus drivers and those the serve when the strike is over? That may require some time to happen.
