The Mustang Girls Water Polo Club had a productive summer, according to coach Ernie Medina. The team was comprised of all 16-under girls, who played in that division as well as in the 18-under division in summer league competition.
The Mustangs 16U team finished 5-0 with victories against Norse, Cowpack, Cowboy, Surge and Waterdog.
The Mustang 18U team finished 2-3 with victories against the Wolfpack and Cowboy and losses to Cougar, Shores and Norse.
“I was happy with the program this summer,” Medina said. “We had a lot of new girls participating. For being the youngest team in the two leagues, we did very well. The Mustang USWP Club program offered a good opportunity for the girls to observe, learn, practice and play water polo. We also had fun with beach team days and we also went to see the FINA Womens World Championships.”
Medina noted the Mustangs were the largest program participating with 19 girls.
“The East County Summer 16-U and 18-U leagues were a good place for us to compete,” Medina said. “Many of these club teams were represented by some of the top high school players in the county.”
Participating teams included Shores (Bishops), Knights (Navy), Norse (Valhalla), Wolfpack (West Hills), Cowboy (El Capitan), Bulldawg (Ramona), Waterdog (Helix), Surge (Patrick Henry and University City), Hillers (Grossmont) and Cougar (Steele Canyon).
The Mustang Girls Water Polo Club plans to participate in Fall Ball competition, according to Medina. The club is open to all 12 to 18 year-old-old girls with swimming experience. Participants must be USWP registered. Fall Ball begins in September. For more information, call 425-9356.

California State Games
South Bay Aquatics placed third overall at the California State Games held July 9-11 throughout San Diego County. The swimming venue was at La Jolla High School.
Parker Seale earned the Swimmer of the Meet High Point Award with four first-place finishes and one second-place finish.
Addie Seale, 12, recorded one first- and four second-place finishes while Jana Miclat, 13, recorded one first- and four third-place finishes. Sarah Medina, 14, recorded five second-place finishes.
In the Junior Lifeguards competition, SBA swimmers helped San Diego State Junior lifeguard team win the championship.
