Summer is coming to an end but we have much to look forward to with the new fall semester starting on August 26, 2024. We are filled with enthusiasm and hope for the exciting Jaguar Journey ahead bringing new opportunities for growth, learning, and connection. We are confident that this semester will be no exception.
We have money for college! Southwestern College’s Promise Program offers two years of enrollment completely FREE, for those who qualify. Our Financial Aid Office is dedicated to helping you navigate the application process. Students can attend weekly workshops on Thursdays in the month of August from 8 to 11 am and 2 to 5 pm to help them complete their FAFSA or Dream Act Applications. Please do not hesitate to reach out for guidance, your education is an investment in your future, and we are here to help you every step of the way. You can schedule an appointment with us by calling (619) 482-6357 or emailing FinancialAid@swccd.edu.
We are also proud to offer a range of scholarships to support our students’ academic endeavors. Scholarships not only provide financial relief but also recognize and reward the hard work and achievements of our students. Last academic year, we granted nearly one million dollars in scholarships and awards to our amazing students. Our scholarship applications open September 1, 2024, and we encourage all students to explore the opportunities available and apply. For any questions or assistance, please contact the SWC Foundation at SWCFoundation@swccd.edu.
At the heart of our institution is a deep commitment to the well-being and success of our students. Our SWC Cares Office is designed to provide comprehensive support, addressing both academic and personal challenges. Whether you need academic tutoring, mental health resources, or assistance with housing and food security, we are here to help. We believe in fostering a supportive community where every student can succeed.
“In the 2022-23 academic year, with the help of the Hope Center, we administered a Basic Needs Survey– we found out that 66% of SWC respondents reported they experienced food insecurity, housing insecurity, or homelessness in the past 12 months”, Basic Needs Coordinator, Trina Eros explained, “No one should have to decide between purchasing food for their family or buying a textbook. Basic needs are a human right.”
“The SWC Cares program has helped me continue in school since the aid helped me so that I could have what I needed to keep my children safe and transportation to get to my classes,” a SWC student expressed, “I also want to mention that in this department I mattered, they treated me like a student who is important.”
We are committed to providing an enriching and supportive environment where all students can thrive. Our faculty and staff are here to guide you, and we encourage you to take full advantage of the resources and opportunities available to you.
Let’s make this fall semester a time of growth, discovery, and achievement.
Mark Sanchez, Ed.D., is president/superintendent of Southwestern College.
