On April 25, the Sweetwater Authority held its artists reception at the Bonita Museum & Cultural Center. Sweetwater Authority’s annual High School Photo Contest serves as an opportunity to highlight our most essential and precious resource, water, while also showcasing the talent of our local high school students.

With a total of 189 photo entries submitted by 73 students from 9 different schools, the judging process was notably competitive this year. The first prize winners in each category received $400, while second place winners were awarded $300, third place $200, and Honorable Mentions $50.

The winning photos are featured on the Authority’s website at www.sweetwater.org/photocontest2024 and are currently on display at the Bonita Museum & Cultural Center. The judging process was conducted through a blind selection process by Authority staff, a Televisa staff cameraman Rogelio Avila, and the Director of the Bonita Museum & Cultural Center, Wendy Wilson.

“One of this year’s winners, Edith Marquez, was a student of our Board Chair Paulina Martinez-Perez when she taught elementary school, and they got to reunite at the reception. It was a great moment,” said Authority Principal Public Affairs Representative Gwyneth Shoecraft in a statement.
