On June 12, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the recently renovated Third Avenue sign.
The ceremony took place on Parkway and Third Avenue with the Third Avenue sign as a backdrop.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured remarks from city officials and community leaders, celebrating the significance of the landmark and its role in the broader efforts to enhance downtown.
Mayor John McCann said he was excited that the Third Avenue sign was renovated.
“I was a council member when we brought the sign to Third Avenue to make a historic landmark for Chula Vista downtown,” he said. “I think that it is important that we modernized it with LEDs, and the ability to change lighting for each holiday. It will be very impressive to showcase to our new tourists that will be coming to the Gaylord Resort & Convention Center. I think it is a historic progress for the city because when people see the sign, they will know it is Chula Vista.”
“We are thrilled to unveil the new LED sign on Third Avenue, a stunning addition that truly captures the vibrant spirit of our community. This project, made possible by the incredible support of the City of Chula Vista and Signtech, symbolizes the ongoing revitalization of Downtown Chula Vista. The LED lights will add new life to our community events and holidays with custom color schemes, adding to the festive atmosphere. This iconic landmark will serve as a welcoming beacon for residents and visitors alike, reflecting our commitment to creating a livelier environment,” said Downtown Chula Vista Association District Manager Dominic Li Mandri.
