A 19-year-old Chula Vista man will be arraigned at a later date on a murder charge involving the shooting death of an acquaintance at a South Bay motel on March 18.
Courtrooms throughout the county are expected to be closed through the month of April.
Jonathan Orduno was taken into custody March 26 by customs officers following a be-on-the-lookout bulletin in the slaying of Adrian Torres-Garcia, 22, who was found dead by a housekeeper at a San Ysidro motel.
Orduno has not been arraigned yet because of the shutdown of all the San Diego County courthouses following an emergency proclamation due to the spread of the coronavirus. Orduno remains without bail in the central jail in downtown San Diego.
Orduno is believed to be an acquaintance of Torres-Garcia, who was shot once in his upper torso in the motel in the 100 block of East Calle Primera. In a press release by San Diego
Police on March 24, it said very little is known about the circumstances of the death but it does not appear to be a random attack.
Torres-Garcia is a longtime resident of the South Bay.
Orduno was arrested March 26 as he walked through the San Ysidro Point of Entry at night. Police have declined to say if he was leaving the country or returning when he was arrested. Orduno is expected to plead not guilty.
