Teen charged with friend’s death

A 19-year-old man has been ordered to stand trial for the Paradise Hills killing of his friend, who was shot in front of his grandfather.

Angelo Roshon Richardson, Jr. will next appear in San Diego Superior Court on Oct. 28 concerning the death of Tyshawn Powell, 20, who was killed June 29.

The victim’s grandfather, Tcheolipous “Theo” Cochran testified Oct. 11 in the preliminary hearing that Powell had been living with him in his Childs Avenue home. Cochran said he heard voices around 1 a.m. and he heard his grandson tell people outside they needed to be quiet and not wake him up.

“He was standing right in front of me when he got shot,” said Cochran.
San Diego Police detective Marco Perez testified he interviewed witnesses afterwards and learned that Powell had punched Richardson in the mouth before the shooting. Richardson had “a busted lip,” according to witnesses.

Witnesses told Perez that Richardson was “acting unusual and being a jerk” that night. Witnesses said both Richardson and Powell had handguns and they were comparing each firearm. Perez testified that Richardson’s girlfriend didn’t want him to have a firearm because he might do “something stupid,” according to witnesses he talked with.

San Diego Superior Court Judge Charles Rogers also ordered Richardson to stand trial for shooting at an inhabited building, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon.
Richardson has pleaded not guilty and he remains in jail on $2 million bail.
