A man who has been to prison before for domestic violence pleaded guilty Monday to making a criminal threat to his girlfriend in Paradise Hills while armed with a gun in an incident that also included a SWAT standoff.
The preliminary hearing for Isaac Terrall Cross, 38, started Monday with witnesses, but Cross told his attorney at one point he wanted to plead guilty. Testimony stopped and San Diego Superior Court Judge Joan Weber accepted his guilty plea for making a criminal threat while armed.
Deputy District Attorney Ramona McCarthy said Tuesday the attorneys and Cross agreed to accept a stipulated 14-year prison term. Weber set sentencing for August 6. Cross remains in jail on $285,000 bail.
The incident took place in the 6800 block of Potomac Street near Paradise Valley Road on May 22. The girlfriend suffered visible injuries in the incident, said McCarthy. She may make a statement at the sentencing, McCarthy added.
The other charges were dismissed which included kidnapping, false imprisonment, two felony assault counts, inflicting corporal injuries, and resisting arrest.
The girlfriend left her apartment at 5:15 a.m. and called 911. She told officers that Cross had a gun and a SWAT team took several hours in persuading Cross to leave the apartment. As a precaution, police evacuated several nearby units. Cross surrendered around 9:30 a.m. No shots were fired.
McCarthy said Cross is on parole after pleaded guilty to committing domestic violence in 2015.
