The South Coast Water Polo Club’s 12U and 14U teams each won their two games in San Diego County League play at Valhalla High on April 2.
The 14U team defeated Peninsula by a score of 16-1 and topped EC Grossmont by a score of 11-2. The 12U team defeated the Water Dogs Helix by a score of 13-3 and also swam past EC by a score of 10-1.
The 12U team improved its record to 40-0.
The 12U team went 3-0 to capture the championship title of the Northwood Irvine Water Polo Invitational tournament played March 5 in Santiago Canyon in Orange County. South Coast defeated Northwood by a score of 5-0, Las Vegas by a score of 13-9 and Riverside by a score of 13-6.
Fletcher Field led the team in scoring while Ethan Hastings led the team in assists and steals. Goalie Kevin Stucki backstopped the team in the net.
The 12U roster at the tournament also included Luke Wilson, Julius Joplin, T.C. Spaulding, Bradford Dickson, Trevor Rector, Dylan Hartley, Carlos Ibarra, Tyler Kavanagh, Carter Gailband, Logan Moore and Tatum Billings.
College baseball
Several South County high school alumni have helped San Diego State University’s baseball team to a recent win streak.
Andrew Brown (Rock Academy) tripled and singled to score three runs in Tuesday’s 5-4 victory against UCLA in Lake Elsinore. Julian Escobedo (Eastlake) scored two runs in the game.
The Aztecs reached the 20-win plateau by defeating visiting San Francisco, 4-2, on Monday.
Dean Nevarez (Eastlake) singled to drive in Andrew Martinez (Mater Dei Catholic) in the bottom of the second inning. Escobedo scored an insurance run on a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.
