Bonita resident Megan Glibbery, 20, is a pageant competitor on the move.
Back in November 2010, Glibbery competed in the Miss San Diego International Pageant where she won the titles of Miss Congeniality and first runner-up.
“My platform was guidance to the youth,” said Glibbery. “I chose that platform to advocate to the youth that they need positive role models.”
And while she and her platform did not get top honors at that competition, in May she was crowned Miss Bonita.
“We did our first fundraiser in May, and we were present at Bonita Fest,” she said.
Glibbery says the South Bay International Program is more focused on community service.
“It was a series of interviews,” said Glibbery. “This program is based on all community service rather than being a beauty queen.”
Glibberry’s focus on community service may come in handy. Glibbery has to step in as Miss Greater San Diego International and compete for her at the Miss California International Pageant because the current queen cannot fulfill her duties.
“I am not taking her title, but I am taking her place,” said Glibbery.
In order to prepare for the next big pageant Glibbery has a lot on her plate.
“I have been doing about 10 hours a week of coaching,” said Glibbery. “My coach is Brandy Kane, and she is the former Miss California USA, she has been helping me with my interview skills since it will be 40 percent of my overall score.”
Competing in the Miss California International Pageant is expensive; the entry fee is $695, the ad page is $250, plus wardrobe and travel expenses, to a total of about $3,000 to $4,000.
The Miss California International Pageant will be on Sept. 8, 9 and 10 and will take place at Downey.
