Mammograms save lives by detecting breast cancer early, when it is easier to treat and when chances of survival are highest. However, women who have no health insurance or limited insurance are much less likely to be screened for breast cancer, leading to greater health disparities and poorer outcomes.
Sharp HealthCare, San Diego’s largest health care provider, is dedicated to increasing breast cancer screening rates for these underserved, vulnerable populations. In collaboration with La Maestra Community Health Centers, the Douglas & Nancy Barnhart Cancer Center at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center will offer access to free mammograms at an upcoming South Bay event.
What: Free Cancer Screening Event and Health Fair
When: Saturday, March 1, 2025: 9 am to 3 pm
Where: Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, 769 Medical Center Drive, Chula Vista, CA

At the event, representatives from La Maestra Community Health Centers will meet with attendees to determine if they qualify for a no-cost mammogram. If results show anything of concern, La Maestra representatives will guide individuals through next steps for accessing affordable care.
Guidelines for individual cancer screenings vary, but attendees must meet the following criteria to qualify:
Be a California resident (please bring an ID for verification)
Have no or limited insurance
Household income at or below 200% of federal poverty guidelines
Do not receive these services through Medi-Cal or other government-sponsored program
