A burglar who broke into a Chula Vista home, frightening a 13-year-old girl who hid under a bed while he was inside, was sentenced last week to 25 years in state prison. Maurice Charles FaulkĀner, 53, apologized for his actions before he was sentenced by Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Kathleen Lewis.

The girl texted her mother while under the bed in the May 15 incident and the mother notified Chula Vista Police. Faulkner fled with $50 cash, but was arrested down the street. Faulkner will have to serve 85 percent of the 25-year term before he is eligible for parole. Lewis gave him credit for serving 204 days in jail before sentencing.
