Nothing beats summer in Downtown Chula Vista! This summer is filled with neighborhood strolls, sweet sips and treats, re-connecting with small business owners, and community events you don’t want to miss. Whether you’re looking to spend the morning or afternoon in the neighborhood, you’ll find yourself wanting to continue to spend more time on Third Avenue.
Summer Sips
Cool off with a tasty Dark Chocolate Chip Frappe at Terzo Bakery and Café, an ice cold Arnold Palmer at Grind House, an aromatic Iced Lavender Latte from Mmm…Cakes!, a delectable Iced Vanilla Latte from Dulcet, or a colorful Frosted Animal Cookie Protein Shake from The Nutrition Place. Don’t forget to pick something up for your furry companion too!
Things To Do
If there’s one thing our neighborhood likes to do, is come together to support our community and celebrate each other! This year we’re kicking off the summer with a new Block Party and celebrating the 25th anniversary of our iconic Lemon Festival!
1st Annual Downtown Chula Vista Block Party
Culture and community take center stage at the inaugural Downtown Chula Vista Block Party, presented by the City of Chula Vista, on Friday, July 8 from 4 p.m.-9 p.m.. Bask in the charm of the neighborhood while enjoying bites and sips, a lowrider car show, curated vendors selling artisanal wares featuring Las Jefas Market, live music on two stages of entertainment, and the City of Champions award ceremony honoring local Chula Vistans, a San Diego Padres watch party and more! For more information, visit ChulaVistaBlockParty.com.
25th Annual Lemon Festival
Start planning your finest lemon-themed fits and get ready for this year’s 25th Annual Lemon Festival! Taking place on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., the Third Avenue Village Association will completely transform Third Avenue into a lemon-filled oasis. From lemon pie eating competitions to games, lemonade, and cute pups in lemon outfits, this is a free celebration you don’t want to miss! For more information, visit LemonFestivalCV.com.
2nd Annual Arts in the Park
OnStage Playhouse invites you to celebrate arts and community at the 2nd Annual “Arts in the Park” on Saturday, Aug. 27! Bring your family and friends to this free all-day event featuring circus-themed performances on the Amphitheatre Stage from Carpa San Diego, Fern Street Circus, as well as other musicians, comedians, acrobats, jugglers, dancers and theatrical performers.
The fun doesn’t stop there! The Artisans Alley will offer the opportunity to shop local handcrafted items and meet the artisans. What’s some fun in the sun without a little bit of color? Kids will be able to stop by the Face Painting Stations to get their color on and then head to the Mermaid Grotto, play different games and get the chance to make their own hat at the Hat Making Station!
Arts in the Park kicks off at 10 a.m. with a welcome from Mayor Mary Salas followed by local luminaries joining the stage throughout the day. What a beautiful way to bring the community together and celebrate the arts! For more information, visit OnStagePlayhouse.org.
Third Avenue Village Market
Join us every Sunday from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. for the new Third Avenue Village Market where community members will be able to shop for the freshest produce, pastured eggs, freshly baked breads, sauces, and flowers from over 60 local farmers and vendors. Since its inception, Chula Vista has not only been known as the lemon capital of the world, but also a farmer’s delight for tomatoes, grapes, strawberries, celery, and cucumbers. With this new market, the Downtown Chula Vista Association, formerly known as Third Avenue Village Association, hopes to not only give everyone better access to fresh ingredients and local specialties, but also pay tribute to Chula Vista’s rich agricultural history.
