‘Representation be damned’

Deuel Howard’s letter of 2/1, “Comparative Politics”, is laughable.
Democrats tolerant? Really? The party that censored opposing views throughout social media, confirmed by Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, is tolerant? Hardly.

He obviously hates gun rights, but acknowledges that people that want to hurt or kill others will find other means, such as knives and swords. So I guess we need knife and sword control laws. After that it will be baseball bats, and so on. People who want to hurt or kill others will find a way.

He advocates a popular vote, but our founders were profoundly wise in not allowing the use of popular vote for president. Popular vote systems are democracies, but we are not. Our founders made us a democratic republic.  These are not the same. In a democracy, once the wolves are in the majority, they could easily vote to eat all the sheep. A majority vote would give all the voting power to the major U.S. cities, such as New York, L.A., Chicago, etc.  Candidates would have no need to campaign in Iowa, Nebraska, Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, and so many other states or smaller cities. Representation be damned.
