Politicians who seek to reduce our greenhouse-gas emissions should support increased federal funding for cultivated-meat research. For those who aren’t aware, cultivated meat is grown from livestock cells, without slaughter. Animal agriculture is actually one of the leading causes of climate change.
Cultivated meat is still being developed, so it’s not clear how much greenhouse-gas emissions will ultimately be required to make the protein. However, there’s an expectation the climate impact will be significantly less than slaughtered meat. Our leaders should accelerate the growth of this nascent industry.
