A 21-year-old Chula Vista man was sentenced Tuesday to eight years in prison and fined approximately $1,040 after pleading guilty to committing a lewd act on a child who was under 14 years of age.
Probation was denied for Carlos Isac Ojeda by Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Theodore Winters, who gave him credit for 449 days spent in jail. Ojeda pleaded guilty to one count March 27 and four other similar charges were dropped.
Ojeda agreed to the eight-year term when he pleaded guilty, said Deputy District Attorney Ted Minahan, who declined to specify the victim’s gender. The victim was first molested in July 2011 and the last incident occurred in June 2012.
Chula Vista Police arrested Ojeda on June 21, 2012. Ojeda worked as a contract tutor at Lauderbach Elementary School in Chula Vista and was a volunteer coach for a local youth football league.
The prosecutor said Ojeda did not meet the victim through his work or sports activities. The victim did not have to testify in open court as Ojeda pleaded guilty just before he was to have a preliminary hearing.
