Registration is open for the Côta Vera 5K Fun Run, for runners and walkers to traverse through the 155-acre Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center on Oct. 14, all in benefit for the SBCS in a family-friendly event. Not only a fundraiser, but this event also gives participants a chance to see close-up views of the training facilities for more than a dozen Olympic sports. Finishing the event is a festival with a beer garden, food trucks, and vendor displays. Runners will receive two complimentary drink tickets and swag. One hundred percent of proceeds will benefit SBCS, a local non-profit serving youth and families with a variety of services, including food assistance, housing and job assistance, services for foster youth, mental health counseling, and domestic violence shelters and services.

“This is a fun run designed for the whole family, couples, singles, or teams,” said Tim Minjares, director of marketing for HomeFed Corporation, developer of the master-planned village of Côta Vera in a statement. “Our new village in Chula Vista embraces community connections and wellness. This event, which benefits SBCS, will highlight the benefits of getting outside and connecting with neighbors at a unique venue right in our backyard. To encourage family participation, kids 13 and under can participate for free.”

The CVEATC is a complex adjacent to Lower Otay Reservoir. Located at 2800 Olympic Parkway, the center has training and support facilities for more than a dozen summer Olympic and Paralympic sports and cross-training abilities for various winter sports. The CVEATC supports athletes with housing, dining, training facilities, local transportation, recreational facilities, athlete services and professional development programs.

“We hope the community will jump on this opportunity to have a fun day of running or walking, take in the beautiful views of Otay Lakes, perhaps see some Olympic hopefuls, and help children and families in need,” stated Kathryn Lembo, president and CEO of SBCS. “We are grateful to partner with HomeFed Corporation and its new community, Côta Vera. HomeFed has been a loyal supporter of SBCS for many years.”

The race will feature staggered starts from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Registration begins at 9:15 a.m. The post-race beer garden and festivities run from 11:15 a.m. until 2 p.m. Registration is $25 per person, with kids 13 and under free. Registration is available at cotavera.com/funrun.
