The Third Avenue Village Association and the city of Chula Vista’s Culture Arts Department have partnered to bring the arts to downtown Chula Vista.
The inaugural Lit (e-ra-ture) on Third pub crawl comes to the Third Avenue Village District from 4 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21.
The literature and spirit stroll will feature more than 20 artists at participating businesses along Third Avenue. Artists include poets, lyrical dancers and readings of different literature.
Patrons at Thr3e Punk Ales Brewing will enjoy a Frankenstein’s Laboratory type skit.
A Sleepy Hollow theme will be at the Third Avenue Ale House. The Ale House will play the original silent film of Sleepy
Hollow on their televisions as someone portraying the headless horseman walks around reading the Sleepy Hollow story.
“The event is about infusing art into the businesses as a way to market and showcase all the new businesses (and) our existing businesses on Third Avenue,” said Lynnette Tessitore, cultural arts manager describing the event. “We are animating the village with art.”
Someone portraying Edgar Allan Poe will be at Chula Vista Brewery reciting some of the author’s famous work every 30 minutes. Also, “Mark Twain” will be walking around the village directing people where to go.
Mangia Italiano restaurant will be decked out in everything Harry Potter.
Groundswell Brewing will open for the first time on this day and will have a theme based on the novel Wicked by Gregory Maguire.
Tessitore said combining art in the business district would make people want to explore what Third Avenue has to offer.
“It creates a destination here on Third Avenue and it gets people inside the businesses and moving,” she said.
“Sometimes people might come to Third Avenue to have dinner and then they get back in their car and leave. This gets them out in the street, walking down the street to kind of see everything we have going whether or not there is one of the performances within there. “
Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased at the Third Avenue Village Association, 353 Third Ave. or by phone at (619) 422-1982. With admission ticket, guests will receive a wristband, which will give guests discounts at certain locations, a raffle ticket, event map and a small gift.
Kelly Lannom, events manager at the Third Avenue Village Association, said the purpose of the event is to highlight the new developments on Third Avenue.
“I’d like it to bring a lot of awareness to the arts in the area, I’d like it to bring awareness of all the changes going on, on Third Avenue,” she said.
“And most of all I’d like to attract people who don’t come to the area or haven’t been in a long time to Third Avenue to see all the new things that are going on.”
