New one for the record books

Sarah Lewis

The Bonita Museum & Cultural Center announced its new George Oswell Memorial Archives Manager Sarah Lewis, who works with staff and visiting curators to include objects in art and history exhibitions.

Lewis has lived in nearby Lemon Grove for 20 years and is married with five children.

“It’s great to be back in Bonita. I moved here as a high school student in 1995 and graduated from Bonita Vista High School in 1997. I came back often since my parents owned a house in Bonita for almost 30 years, and I now go running in Bonita most weekends.” Lewis said in a press release.

Lewis joined the board of the Lemon Grove Historical Society in 2020 and wanted to organize their archives, which got her interested in going back to school.

“I just received my master’s degree in library and information science from San Jose State University. I am just finishing up an internship at the San Diego County Clerk Recorder Archives in Santee, and last summer I got to spend two months in Sarasota Florida interning at the Ringling circus archive. Working in a circus archive is so much fun,” she said. “Volunteering as an archivist in the Lemon Grove Historical Society has given me great experience organizing a small archive that is functional and simple to maintain, along with an understanding of the issues faced by small local history organizations. I’m excited to work as the archivist for the Bonita Historical Society.”
