The murder trial of a man who shot an acquaintance 30 times in National City has been delayed until Nov. 29.
Manuel Joseph Castro, 52, is representing himself on a murder charge in the March 23, 2013 death of Jesus Degalilea Pena, 43, with a high powered rifle in a parking lot at 1502 Sweetwater Road at 5:30 p.m.
Castro had allegedly followed Pena from his home in National City. Pena got out of his vehicle near a dumpster east of the Carl’s Jr. and west of the Hanaoka’s Japanese Restaurant.
One of Castro’s former attorneys said at the 2015 preliminary hearing that Castro had a dispute with Pena’s family, but not with Pena himself. Castro fled the scene and was not arrested until Mexican authorities arrested him in Tijuana in June 2015.
Castro remains in jail on $1 million bail, but Henry Castro remains free on $200,000 bond.
Both brothers have pleaded not guilty.
