Just win baby! The Otay Ranch Mustangs and Olympian Eagles both remained undefeated on the season on the strength of picking up key road wins last Friday.
Otay Ranch improved to 3-0 after defeating host Mt. Miguel, 16-6, while Olympian tamed the host Morse Tigers by a score of 21-12 to improve to 2-0.
The Mustangs led the previously undefeated Matadors by a score of 9-0 on three first-half field goals by Alec Cortez before putting the game away on a 34-yard rushing touchdown by Sam Stephens in the fourth quarter.
Cortez hit from 27 yards and 22 yards twice to salvage points after his team failed to advance the ball inside the Mt. Miguel five-yard line.
The Matadors (2-1) trimmed the Otay Ranch lead to 9-6 on a 16-yard scoring play in the third quarter.
Flying high
Olympian signal-caller Gary Cannon passed for 147 yards, including a 40-yard scoring pass to Ed Galloway, and Will Lampkin tacked on a two-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the victory against winless Morse (0-3).
The Eagles recorded two safeties in the game on defense while Justin Creel booted a 37-yard field goal and added two PAT conversions to account for the visitors’ scoring.
Olympian rushed for 160 yards in the game. Galloway had two receptions for 120 yards.
Defensively, the Eagles had two sacks and one fumble recovery. Bradley Erickson had 13 total tackles while Paul Thompson had 11 and Marcelo Knox had 10.
