A Chula Vista man will be sentenced May 24 for a 2012 killing of a man mistakenly thought to be a rival gang member, a prosecutor said Wednesday.
Prosecutor Paul Reizen said Salvador Cuellar, 30, has agreed to a stipulated prison term of 37 years for the slaying of Hector Arce, 36, of Imperial Beach.
Just before jury selection was about to start, Cuellar pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and admitted using a gun during the homicide which adds 10 years to the sentence.
Arce and the defendants did not know each other and they mistakenly thought he was a rival gang member when he was shot Jan. 28, 2012 on Imperial Beach Boulevard.
