A Chula Vista man who repeatedly stabbed his wife has pleaded guilty to attempted murder and committing domestic violence with his agreement to accept a prison term of 18 years and eight months.
Brian Christain Rolstad, 29, will be sentenced Feb. 28 in Chula Vista Superior Court. The victim was stabbed 63 times in front of the couple’s baby and a 4-year-old daughter from the victim’s previous relationship, said Deputy District Attorney Rebecca Ocain on Monday.
The victim asked that she not be identified.
Ocain said the victim spent 1 1/2 weeks in the hospital following the June 15 attack at 7:50 p.m. in the couple’s home in the 1300 block of Granite Springs Drive in Eastlake.
Judge Esteban Hernandez dismissed charges of aggravated mayhem, torture, and attempted grand theft after Rolstad pleaded guilty to the other counts.
Rolstad also pleaded guilty to two counts of felony child abuse which involve exposing the children to the attack, said Ocain.
The couple was married for two years. The majority of the victim’s wounds were in the upper part of her body. Police arrested Rolstad on Center Street later that day.
Rolstad remains in the George Bailey Detention Facility on $2 million bail.
