A San Diego man has been ordered to stand trial for murder in the Dec. 5, 2010, slaying of Jesus Manuel Ruiz who was shot to death in his car in Chula Vista.
A Nov. 30 trial date has been set for Jose Luis Guadarrama, 26, by Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sontag who conducted a 2-day preliminary hearing that ended June 23.
Ruiz, 32, of San Diego, was talking to his girlfriend around 2 a.m. in the 500 block of Woodlawn Avenue. His girlfriend was outside the car and they were talking about a phone when a man walked up to the driver’s window.
Deputy District Attorney Hector Jimenez said Guadarrama tried to involve himself in the argument between Ruiz and his girlfriend and Ruiz told him to not participate in the conversation.
Ruiz was then shot twice.
Ruiz was shot in the head and he lost control of the car and it went forward, striking several parked cars. The gunman fled.
The prosecutor said he doesn’t know if Ruiz knew Guadarrama before the incident.
Guadarrama was arrested Dec. 11 by Chula Vista and San Diego Police officers as he was leaving his 28th Street home in San Diego. He has pleaded not guilty and remains in the George Bailey Detention Facility on $1 million bail.
