A man charged with wounding a National City barber in March has been charged with killing a man in February in a gang related case with two other men.
Peter Burgos, 45, appeared Tuesday in San Diego Superior Court in the slaying of Jimmy Khieu, 32, whose body was found in a culvert near Fox Canyon and Chollas Creek on Feb. 3. Khieu had suffered traumatic injuries to his upper body.
The other case against Burgos is the attempted murder of David Martinez, 28, who was shot in the back on March 27 when Burgos allegedly went into his King of Fades barbershop at 318 Highland Ave. in National City. Martinez fled from the gunman, but he was shot at several more times.
Burgos is also charged with assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm, and several counts of being a convicted person who is prohibited from possession of a firearm and ammunition.
A preliminary hearing in the barber shooting has been set for Nov. 5 in Chula Vista Superior Court. The homicide case preliminary hearing was set Tuesday for Nov. 13.
Also charged is Jesus K. Faraj, 41, and Steven Chavez, 32. All three are also charged with conspiracy. They have all pleaded not guilty.
Judge Polly Shamoon said Tuesday the charges against the three men include allegations that they killed Khieu to benefit a criminal street gang. The bail for Burgos on both cases is now $7 million. The bail for Faraj and Chavez is $4 million each.
