A Chula Vista man pleaded guilty Sept. 5 to assault with a deadly weapon in an incident where he stabbed a childhood friend 14 times during a long talk they were having about the direction of the man’s life.
Fabian Julian Rojas, 22, faces between 5-7 years in state prison, said Deputy District Attorney David McNees. Probation has been ruled out.
Sentencing is set for Oct. 29 before Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Garry Haehnle. The judge dismissed an attempted murder charge after Rojas pleaded guilty to assault.
On April 17, the childhood friend, who was not identified, called 911 after being stabbed repeatedly around 11:52 p.m. at 1365 Santa Cora Ave. The friend, 21, told police he and Rojas began to argue after the friend talked about Rojas’ direction in life.
The friend was stabbed in the back, arms, and legs. He was in the hospital for three days. “He’s already made a full recovery,” said McNees.
Chula Vista Police saw Rojas running away from the scene and caught him after a short foot chase. Rojas was also arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Rojas remains in the South Bay Detention Facility without bail.
