Man accused of burglary, ditching cops

A Chula Vista man faces a Sept. 6 preliminary hearing on charges of residential burglary and evading police officers during a chase.

Brandon Albert Loeb, 34, has pleaded not guilty to four charges and remains free on $30,000 bond. Loeb won a delay in his preliminary hearing on Aug. 13 in El Cajon Superior Court.

La Mesa Police received a call on May 9 at 12:55 p.m. from a witness who said a suspect had broken into an apartment in the 5700 block of Cowles Mountain Boulevard. The witness said a man left the apartment with a bag of items. The witness gave a description of the black Honda Fit sedan the suspect was driving.

An officer located the vehicle as it entered Interstate 8 from Lake Murray Boulevard and followed it down to Chula Vista. The sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter assisted. An officer tried a traffic stop but the suspect failed to yield and a pursuit ensued.

The driver collided with two other vehicles before continuing eastbound on E Street. The driver pulled into the parking lot of Motel 6 in the 700 block of E Street and got out of the car and fled on foot. Officers arrested Loeb in the area.

Officers found some jewelry in the bag taken from the apartment that was in the car. Loeb is also charged with hit and run with property damage and possession of methamphetamine. He told police he knew someone in the Motel 6 room. It was searched, but no stolen property was found there.
