SBCS and the South Region Coalition of the San Diego Domestic Violence Council is inviting the community to join “Light Up the Night,” an evening of solidarity, self-care, and community support in the ongoing fight against domestic violence, coinciding with Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The event takes place on Oct. 25, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Rohr Park, 4548 Sweetwater Road in Bonita.
Light Up the Night presents an opportunity for all community members to come together, stand with survivors, and contribute to the community-wide effort to prevent domestic violence. Participants will have the chance to engage in a peaceful yoga session, savor delicious food, and prioritize self-care, all in a safe and supportive environment.
Distinguished guests at the event include San Diego County Board of Supervisors Chair Nora Vargas, Chula Vista Mayor John McCann, National City Mayor Ron Morrison, and Chula Vista Police Department Chief Roxane Kennedy.
“The mission of the Light Up the Night event is to illuminate a world free of domestic violence,” said Analicia McKee-Chau, Domestic Violence Shelter & Supportive Services Program director at SBCS in a statement. “We hope that members of the community join us on October 25th as we come together to stand with survivors and prioritize violence prevention, advocacy, and self-care in the fight against domestic violence. Let us be a community that says no to abuse and yes to solidarity.”
Attendees will hear the story of domestic violence survivor Kelsey Hamlett, collectively celebrating the strength of those impacted by domestic violence. The evening also includes a candlelight vigil, paying tribute to those whose lives have been affected by domestic violence.
