Get ready to rock out with friends, family and neighbors on May 6 at Mountain Hawk Park for LakeFest 2017. The premier event, geared to bring together the Chula Vista community, will offer live music, local eats and craft beers and a variety of unusual activities for families and children.
The idea for the event was developed by the city of CV and Council member John McCann
“This will be the first-ever LakeFest. However, we plan to continue it annually,” said Kelly Lannom, Event Manager.
“The goal is to bring together the community for a day of free fun for all ages. Although the city of Chula Vista is the second largest in the county of San Diego it is still a rather tight knit community. The LakeFest will be a way of celebrating it,” she said.
Some of the activities for the children will be rock wall climbing, rolling along in those crazy-fun battle balls, and trekking on the BMX obstacle course. There will also be archery demonstrations and a chance for children to try out the bow themselves. In addition, park rangers from the Living Coast Discovery Center will be on hand to show and talk about some of the animals and plants of San Diego Bay.
Food trucks will serve up exotic eats and local eateries will cook up some of their favorite entrees for purchase. For the 21-and-up crowd, there will be tastings from more than 15 local craft brewers, including Groundswell Brewing Co, Novo Brazil Brewing, Bay Bridge Brewing, Thr3e Punk Ale Brewing, Resident Brewing.
“As the craft beer industry pours into the City of Chula Vista at large, LakeFest intends to quench the thirst of South Bay and San Diego beer enthusiasts,” Lannom said.
LakeFest will really feel like a party with all the live music from home-grown bands. The Montell Jordans will start off the afternoon, followed by vibes from Sprung Money and Unwritten Law.
Mountain Hawk Park sits directly over Otay Lake in Eastlake.
“The record amount of rain we received this season has made it the perfect year to launch LakeFest as the lake has filled and it is a glorious view,” she said.
People are encouraged to bring picnics and anything they need to make this a perfect day in the park. The 12-acre Mountain Hawk Park with open green space, located at 1475 Lake Crest Drive, has gazebos, picnic areas, barbecue grills, play equipment, restrooms, and an amphitheater as well as a soccer field and basketball courts.
Some community vendors will also be at the event.
