A Chula Vista man who was seen violently kicking his girlfriend to unconsciousness in a motel parking lot on video tape pleaded guilty Oct. 13 to committing domestic violence.
Dorian Chavez Anguiano, 42, has agreed to accept a 7-year term in state prison. Sentencing was set for Nov. 9 by Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sontag.
The Aug. 6 videotaped beating was played Sept. 19 in the preliminary hearing that was conducted by Sontag. In his first court appearance, Anguiano declared “I’m the victim here,” but is no longer making that claim.
In the tape, a woman steps out of a car in the parking lot of a motel in Chula Vista at 7:05 p.m., and Anguiano comes up behind her and knocks her down, with her head hitting the pavement. He then kicks her face, and she doesn’t move.
The tape shows Anguiano looking around and then he pulls her into the car and drives off. Deputy District Attorney Ted Fiorito said Anguiano drove the woman to his residence, and she was later hospitalized for a severe concussion.
Fiorito said charges of kidnapping and assault were dismissed after he pleaded guilty to committing domestic violence.
Her identity has not been disclosed.
His attorney, Alan Spears, told reporters his client was “severely embarrassed” by the video tape. Spears described the relationship between the two as “toxic.” She was seen slapping Anguiano inside the car before they got out.
Anguiano remains in jail without bail.
