Being in a hurry is not the cause of speeders in Southwest Chula Vista. It’s young guys with horsepower beyond reason – or the illusion of.
Given that Chula Vista is unwilling to have patrol cars intermittently posted on our streets, the surefire solution is speed humps that will surely slow the boys.
But Chula Vista just doesn’t like the idea of a one time expense of speed humps claiming emergency vehicles would be slowed.
This means said vehicles would be a few seconds slower to arrive (they must slow or stop at intersections – right?), but is that worse than horrific accidents with cars traveling at 60-plus m.p.h. on our residential streets?
On my street alone, cars have collided with parked cars, houses, and pedestrians and this has been going on for decades – before the 2008 economic collapse.
So it’s not about the cost; rather, it’s about willingness to provide a safe environment for the residences that pay the taxes.
For Chula Vista elected leaders, it’s just not a financial issue – it’s all about its tendency to “just say no!”
