Southwestern College’s football team ran past visiting San Bernardino Valley, 60-28, last Saturday to remain undefeated in American Mountain Conference play.

The Jaguars improved to 6-2 overall, 3-0 in conference play.

Southwestern remains tied with San Diego Mesa (7-1 overall) for the best record in the conference. The teams are scheduled to meet in the final regular season game Nov. 11 at Mesa College.

Southwestern will host College of the Desert (1-2 in conference, 4-4 overall) this Saturday, Nov. 4, to close out its home schedule. Kick-off is 6 p.m.

SWC head coach Ed Carberry was pleased with the all-around performance of his team — not necessarily just by its explosive offensive production.

“Our defense shut down one of the top offenses in the Mountain League,” Carberry said. “The kickoff coverage team has been a major force on the special teams.”

Southwestern opened the second half with a touchdown to increase its lead to 30-3 as Morris hit Ryan Stokes on a 17-yard scoring pass.

The Wolverines scored with 40 seconds to play in the third quarter when Micah Lowden hauled in a one-yard touchdown pass from Alex Lewis. However, the Jaguars continued to lead at this point 30-10.

Southwestern scored four touchdowns in the fourth quarter while tacking on a two-point return of a blocked extra point attempt.

Chris Mack caught two touchdown passes from Morris — one for 74 yards and another for 76 yards.

Alberto Valdez scored on a 44-yard run while Tyler Adderley scored on an 18-yard pass from Jonathan Lindstrom.
Janai Crawford returned a blocked extra-point attempt 98 yards for two points after the Wolverines had scored on an 89-yard kickoff return by Jeffrey Proctor.

Proctor scored on the kick-off following Mack’s first TD catch.

Morris, making his first start of the season, completed 14 of 26 passing attempts for 271 yards with four touchdowns and one interception while Lindstrom completed both his attempts for 25 yards and one touchdown.
