A burglar who injured a Chula Vista woman during an attempted robbery was sentenced Tuesday to nine years and four months in state prison.
Probation was denied for Edwin Don Holiday Jr., 21, of Chula Vista by Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Esteban Hernandez who also imposed a $2,000 fine.
Holiday was given credits of seven weeks in jail since his Sept. 25 arrest.
Deputy District Attorney David McNees said Holiday will have to serve 85 percent of the sentence before he can be released on parole. Holiday has a prior conviction for residential burglary.
Holiday entered the woman’s home on Redlands Place around 9:30 a.m. through an unlocked back door. He struck the 48-year-old woman in the face and demanded money. However, he then fled without taking anything, said McNees. She was treated at an urgent care facility for soreness to her face.
Holiday pleaded guilty to residential burglary and attempted robbery.
Chula Vista Police arrested Holiday near Otay Lakes and La Media roads about 20 minutes after the victim called police.
