Historic homes ready for inspection

Homeowners of historical homes will open their doors to the public next week, showing the rich history, architecture and the heritage of Chula Vista.

The historic homes built in Spanish revival, orchard and pueblo styles are strewn throughout the west side of Chula Vista. The homes were built as early as the late 1800s to as late as 1995.

The homeowners will open up their homes to benefit the Chula Vista Heritage Museum and preservation projects for the historical homes.

The featured homes include the Augusta Starkey House, the oldest house on the tour built in 1896, and the Maldonado House built in 1995, but encompasses a carriage house built in the late 1800s that remains on the property. These homes are special for the tour this year in celebration of Chula Vista’s centennial celebration because of their near 100- year span of Chula Vista architecture. The tours are given by the historical home owners of Chula Vista to gain awareness of the history of city.

“A lot of people are unaware of the treasure of old houses that are in Chula Vista. They don’t know the history of Chula Vista and the Chula Vista historic home owners want to make people aware of Chula Vista’s historic value and heritage,” said Glenda de’ Vaney, a historic home owner and organizer of the tour said.

The tour will be held April 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. will follow a kick-off party the night before at the Maldonado house. For more information log onto: www.cvhistorichomes.net.
