A man who fired shots at a car as it drove away and who burglarized a South Bay shoe factory has been sentenced to 19 years in state prison.
Deputy District Attorney Mary Naoom said Tuesday that Alfonso Ayala Flores, 26, committed a number of crimes that included ramming a San Diego Police officer’s car after fleeing police, carjacking, and robbery.
She said San Diego Superior Court Judge Francis Devaney imposed 10 years for assault with a deadly weapon on Aug. 27. He added nine years for personally using a firearm in the Nov. 7, 2019 incident.
Naoom said authorities never learned the identity of the man driving a car whom Flores shot at. He drove off quickly while shots were fired in the South Bay.
Devaney gave a concurrent term of 16 months in prison for Flores’ guilty plea to burglarizing the Nike Factory Outlet in San Ysidro on April 19, 2019. Naoom said Devaney ordered Flores to pay $300 to a man whose vehicle was stolen during the carjacking.
Devaney gave him credit for 332 days spent in jail.
Flores also pleaded guilty to felony assault of a San Diego Police officer and resisting arrest by an executive officer performing his duties. The dismissed charges include carjacking, robbery, grand theft, felon in possession of a firearm, and evading police with reckless driving.
The incidents with the officer occurred on Nov. 7, 2019. Flores was driving a stolen pickup on Dairy Mart Road and an officer tried to pull him over. He led police on a pursuit into Nestor. He pulled into a cul-de-sac and rammed one patrol car.
An officer fired a shot at Flores, but it missed. Officers pursued the truck into Imperial Beach, where Flores got out and ran off. He was captured the next day.
He has a previous conviction for importing cocaine in federal court from 2012.
