Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente secured a point with a draw against Leones Negros but missed the chance to win at home.
Since the early minutes of the game the visiting team displayed a defensive game with only one attacker, former Xolos star Fidel Martinez.
Minutes later, to everyone’s astonishment midfielder Juan Arango demonstrated why he was one of the best shooters from outside the box in the German league this past years. In the 23rd minute he received a pass from defender Juan Carlos Nuñez and let the ball bounce a few times to position a strike from more than 30 meters away from goal that hit the cross bar and went in the keepers net, putting the Xolos ahead 1-0.
In the second half both teams continued playing with the same formations and Leones Negros continued to struggle to find some creativity in their plays since they were playing too defensive and could not counter Club Tijuana at all.
But Martinez was eager to prove that he was an important player to his old squad and in the 77th minute received a pass from striker Andres Rios, sending a blast out of range for Cirilio Saucedo who couldn’t do anything as the shot hit the cross bar for the 1-1.
After the whistle a large number of fans whistled at the team and shouted “Fuera Farias” to show their frustration against the team for not winning and demanded the dismissal of head coach Cesar Farias.
