To the electorate of Chula Vista:
My name is Robert Moreno. You may remember me as a reporter at The Star-News or maybe as a former employee of Chula Vista Council Member Jill Galvez.
As a Chula Vistan and former employee of the City I feel I need to share my story so that you are fully informed as to the character of Jill Galvez. The upcoming mayoral race is important and voters should not be fooled by election propaganda from Ms Galvez.
When Jill Galvez was first elected to the City Council in 2018 one of her first actions was to hire me away from my stable job at The Star-News. She promised me rewarding and stable employment, but soon after hiring me, she terminated me for purely political grandstanding reasons. There was never any complaint about the quality of my work and so it was a surprise that at a public council meeting she terminated me after six months on the job simply for her political benefit as she perceived it. As you might imagine, it threw me and my family into a crisis for no reason except for politics.
According to her public testimony that—on the dais and various media reports—she fired me to make room in the budget to hire more police officers. Unfortunately this never happened and could not happen. My $60,000 salary at the time was in a special pot allocated to city council members and cannot be used for anything else other than staff. In addition, my salary did not equate to that of a police officer.
Jill Galvez will do anything to appear as a caring political figure but the truth is her personal political ambition is what guides her work.
I have no doubt that she would be willing to bankrupt the city if it suited her short term political needs. I’m worried she does not understand a city budget. It’s clear, from her grandstanding, she does not know how a city budget works because we are still waiting for that police officer to be hired from my old salary.
My experience with Jill Galvez should not be the same experience we all might share if Ms Galvez is elected as our mayor. There are other qualified candidates that I would recommend you should consider before you cast your vote
I am a Chula Vistan and I am motivated by making sure you know the truth about Jill Galvez.
While it may seem like I’m crying over spilled milk or that I have a vendetta against Ms. Galvez, this is further from the truth. I just care about my city and know that Galvez would lead the city down the wrong path.
