The registrar of voters released the latest election figures Wednesday night, which show the city of Chula Vista’s seat one council race in a deadlock.
Former Mayor Steve Padilla and his opponent Sweetwater Union High School District board President John McCann are even at 18,450 votes or 50 percent.
“There are still votes out there and I’m committed to making sure every vote is counted,” Padilla said.
McCann said he believes that he will still come out victorious.
“I will continue to fight for the citizens of Chula Vista and not for special interest groups,” he said.
Neither man said if they would consider a recount after the results are official.
On election night Padilla trailed McCann by three percent. McCann had 13,794 votes while Padilla had 13,002
The registrar of voters has until Dec. 2 to finalize the election results.
