Halloween will arrive early in National City.
The National City Fire Fighters Association Local 2744 and the city of National City will host the fourth annual Tower of Terror Haunted House.
“It was an idea from one of the firefighters and it’s a way for kids to celebrate Halloween,” said firefighter Jay Stiles, 33. “It’s a free haunted house with candy and costume contests.”
The haunted house will be located in the first level of the drill tower at National City Fire Station 34 where firefighters will be scaring individuals through torture chambers and caves for those who decide to enter.
“Inside the tower it’s fairly scary, it’s more for the pre-teens and teens rather than the little kids,” said Stiles.
National City’s Community Services Department will host a costume contest throughout the event with contestants being announced every half hour with prizes for each winner.
“The event will be similar to previous years, it seemed as it has worked really well. The decorations will be different, but as far as the overall event, it will be very similar,” said Stiles.
Also featured at the event will be static displays and a community education trailer.
“The static displays are displays of the equipment we use as firefighters and the education trailer teaches kids what to do in the event of a fire,” said Stiles.
The Tower of Terror Haunted House will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 343 East 16th St.
