I trust this message finds you well and filled with the warmth of cherished memories from the holiday season that has just passed. As we bid farewell to the festivities and welcome the dawn of a new year, I wanted to take a moment to extend my heartfelt wishes to each and every one of you.
As we embark on a new year, I find myself filled with excitement and anticipation for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. This time of year is not just a time for resolutions but also a moment to embrace the possibilities that our college has to offer. We are fortunate to be part of an institution that is dedicated to fostering growth, knowledge, and innovation.
The upcoming spring semester holds the promise of fresh beginnings and academic achievements. I encourage you to explore the diverse array of offerings, including our Continuing Education and Weekend College programs. These courses are designed to provide flexibility and accessibility, empowering you to pursue education on your terms.
Our Continuing Education provides opportunities to support the professional development and personal success of our community. Students can grow their careers, get ready for college, or pursue lifelong goals and interests in an environment that welcomes students of all ages and abilities. Classes include Tax Preparation, Veterinary Assistant, Retirement Living, and much more. Day, evening, and weekend classes are available online or in person, offered at multiple locations throughout the community, and many are tuition-free!
Make sure to explore the many possibilities available to you at www.swccd.edu/continuinged, or by calling 619.482.6376.
Our Weekend College program is another great way to sneak in a class to your busy schedule. The National City campus is offering some of the most popular courses that will help you earn credits for general education and life-long learning. Classes offered on Saturdays and Sundays in various modalities, such as in-person or hybrid/online. See the many options at www.swccd.edu/weekendcollege, or by calling 619.216.6665.
With the more than 260 programs we offer, I am particularly thrilled to spotlight the Environmental Hazardous Materials Technology (EHMT) program this month, a hidden gem on our curriculum. We have just started a partnership with Missouri Southern State University for our students to be able to transfer and complete their bachelor’s degree (online) with them.

So, if you are interested in embarking on a new career, I invite you to explore this alternative.
As the only public institution of higher education in the south county, Southwestern College takes pride in its role as a catalyst for positive change. In the spirit of community engagement, we are honored to announce our participation in the upcoming MLK parade, taking place in Downtown San Diego, Sunday, January 14. Southwestern College is dedicated to social justice and equality, values that align with the principles espoused by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I encourage you to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion.
