Driver’s murder trial delayed until March

Darla Renee Jackson won’t face a jury until March in the death of a Navy Seal in a “road rage” incident in Chula Vista after a judge delayed her murder trial to March 10.

Jackson, 25, would have started trial Jan. 12 involving the death of Zacharias Edward Buob, 39, but her attorney requested a delay Dec. 23 from a Chula Vista Superior Court judge.

Jackson, of Imperial Beach, is charged with following Buob after he kicked her car and she ran him over when he fell off his motorcycle on May 28, 2015. They had several traffic altercations on Interstate 5 and went into state Route 54 in Chula Vista, and when she bumped his motorcycle, it became stuck and they traveled 317 feet until the motorcycle separated after he fell off. She is only charged with murder, and not vehicular manslaughter.

California Highway Patrol officer Scott Parent testified Nov. 20 at the preliminary hearing that Jackson was following Buob too closely and too fast. Buob joined the Navy in 1995 and worked as a Navy Seal. He was trained as a chief special warfare boat operator and crewman at Coronado Island, according to his obituary.

Jackson has pleaded not guilty. She remains in the Las Colinas Women’s Detention Facility on $1 million bail.
