In alignment with Little League International recommendations involving the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, California District 22 Little League is suspending Little League activities through May 11.
“Player and community safety continue to be our top priority,” district administrator Ernie Lucero said.
Lucero said that as part of the suspension of activities, no Little League activities will be allowed at any of the district leagues. This includes any practices, regular games, make-up games or social gatherings.
The suspension is in alignment with county public health, local city government agencies and school district actions across the region.
“All of our league presidents have been contacted and we will continue to provide information and guidance to them as we receive updates from local agencies and Little League International,” Lucero explained in a statement issued through the district on Monday. “We recognize that this is the heart of the traditional Little League season, and we share in the great disappointment that many are feeling surrounding this additional pause in the 2020 season. However, it is our hope that by doing this, we will all play a small but important part in flattening the curve in the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.”

The Sweetwater Union High School District previously announced it would be closing its schools through April 3. As a result, all athletic activities, including practices and games, would be suspended.
Coaches are prohibited from any organized contact with student-athletes during this period. Student-athletes, however, are allowed to practice on their own.
The California Interscholastic Federation, the state governing body of high school sports, issued a statement Tuesday afternoon in which it announced it has not determined the future of spring sports events at this time.
Accordingly, the CIF state office has deferred any cancellation of postseason competition in anticipation of further guidance and directives issued by federal, state and local government agencies regarding COVID-19.
