The Chula Vista Police Department held its Annual Holiday Meal & Toy Giveaway at the Walmart on Broadway on Dec. 16. CVPD partnered with local sponsors and the community to bring holiday joy by providing toys and a holiday meal to more than 600 South Bay families in need, a tradition that goes back over two decades.
Santa Claus was present for the celebration as children received brand new toys, and brand-new bicycles, scooters, and skateboards were also raffled off. Those in attendance also were able to meet former San Diego Charges who handed out meals to families alongside Chula Vista Police Chief Roxana Kennedy. Children also were able to take photos and interact with the Grinch, CVPD’s Hot Rod, and the Chick-fil-A Cow.
Kennedy said that these types of events showcase the dedicated men and women of the CVPD who go above and beyond daily to make a positive difference in our community by embracing the true meaning of the holidays in a press release. She also thanked all who will be volunteering their time and services to help with the event on Monday morning.
This event was made possible by the support of the Chula Vista Police Foundation, Walmart, Community Health Group, Cushman Foundation, Gaylord Pacific, Seven Mile Casino, Bob & Sue Sutherland, Stephen & Mary Birch Foundation, Last Hope for Paws, and the City of Chula Vista, and community members who donated toys for the giveaway.
