Computer lab increases senior access

A ribbon cutting was held on June 26 unveiling the nonprofit MACC’s new Mobile Computer Lab. The mobile computer lab, funded by AT&T, aims to provide essential computer and IT services to the residents at its Seniors on Broadway Affordable Housing Community in Chula Vista.

“Our investment in the Mobile Computer Lab at the MAAC Seniors on Broadway Affordable Housing Community reflects our commitment to get more Californians connected and make an impact in the communities we serve,” said Christine Moore, director, External Affairs, AT&T in a press release. “Together, we’re helping to close the digital divide by focusing not only on access to affordable high-speed internet, but also the skills and community resources that encourage safe and successful adoption.”

The mobile computer lab includes 12 laptops along with four docking stations, complete with monitors and keyboards. Residents can checkout laptops for personal use and log into the internet and other digital services from Wi-Fi points across the property. MAAC staff and local high school students will offer technical support, software installation, monthly workshops, and personalized assistance in teaching seniors with their digital needs.

“The Seniors on Broadway Mobile Computer Lab represents a significant step forward in our mission to promote self-sufficiency, especially for our senior residents,” said Arnulfo Manriquez, MAAC president & CEO. “Thanks to the generous support from AT&T, we can ensure that every resident has access to the technology and resources necessary for everyday living in today’s digital age.”
