An attorney for a woman suing a Chula Vista councilman for wrongful termination and retaliation has amended her complaint against the city.
In February Shari Watson, a former aide to Councilman Rudy Ramirez, filed court papers claiming her boss fired her because she would not deposit a check she believed was erroneously paid to the city’s International Friendship Games.
The games have been Ramirez’s pet project for several years.
Watson’s attorney, Josh Gruenberg, previously said his client was an exemplary employee by all accounts.
“She was never written up or disciplined,” he said.
The amended complaint was sent to the city last week.
Senior Assistant City Attorney Bart Miesfeld said his office has not finished reviewing the new complaint but will address the issue when appropriate.
“If we stipulate (to the complaint) we will file a motion response to the court within 30 days of them filing the complaint,” Miesfeld said.
“We’ve also begun taking a deposition (of Watson) to sit down with a court reporter and have her answer questions under oath,” Miesfeld said.
Watson’s first deposition was Aug. 16. Her attorney did not return calls for comment.
