Offcials with Southwestern College said via their Twitter account the student who reported contact with an ill relative, prompting a portion of the campus to be shut down, recanted their story.

Southwestern College officials shut down part of a campus building this morning after a report that one student had been in contact with a relative who hospitalized with flu-like symptoms.

When the student mentioned that she had been in contact with a sick relative who may have shared an airplane flight with a nurse who contracted the Ebola virus, college staff acted to contain the situation.Initially the college issued a statement that read:

“A precaution has been taken regarding a student whose family member reported flu-like symptoms and was hospitalized. The Campus Police have cordoned off the 470 area. The County Department of Health has been called and is in transit to assess the situation. ”

Later in the monring it was determined that there was no evidence of Ebola on campus, although students and staff in the area had been quarantined.
