Third Avenue Village Association will host the 14th annual Cinco de Mayo festival with a twist.
This year the street fair falls on Mother’s Day, May 8.
One reason for having the Cinco de Mayo festival on the weekend is because of the glut of activities that already are taking place in San Diego May 5, said Jovita Juarez, Third Avenue Association event manager.
This year the event will feature a car show with 80 classic cars, a salsa tasting contest, a variety of musical performances, a kid zone with rock climbing, slides and tea cup rides.
To celebrate Mother’s Day the event will also feature a Mother’s Day red carpet center, best mom essay contest winners, and a mother-daughter fashion show.
“I am looking forward to the Mother’s Day red carpet center,” said Juarez. “Mothers will be able to pay $5 to go into a Hollywood themed booth where there will be mini-facials, mini-massages, and they can get their hair and make-up done. Once finished, they will get a goodie bag with health and beauty items donated from Macy’s.”
Also featured in the Mother’s Day center will be a $1 raffle where the winner will stay one night at El Primero Hotel.
“Over 100 volunteers in the Mother’s Day tent will be pampering moms,” added Juarez. “We want the moms to feel like queens.”
Third Avenue from E Street to Alvarado will be closed Sunday for the 40,000 people who are expected to attend.
The event will be from 11 a.m to 7 p.m.
