Chula Vista shelter is holding a Pawty

In celebrating its “shelter heroes,” the Chula Vista Animal Services is asking all pet owners who have adopted dogs from the shelter to join the pre-Pawty reunion on June 22, from 2-4 p.m., at Orange Park, 1475 Fourth Ave. Organizers ask that all pets are properly leashed or placed inside a pet carrier.

This is a precursor to the Chula Vista Animal Services 101st anniversary with The Pawty and free adoptions in the shelter on Saturday, June 29 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the shelter, located at 130 Beyer Way. Local partners will be on hand offering free pet treats and swag to all new adopting families to help clear the shelter.

“We want to celebrate our shelter heroes and continue to build a sense of community for all those who made new lives for our animals,” said Ashley Milo, deputy director of Chula Vista Animal Services in a city press release. “Together, they are our greatest ambassadors on the joys of rescuing animals from our shelter.”

The Chula Vista shelter, which also serves the cities of National City, Imperial Beach and Lemon Grove, has seen a 150 percent increase in animals in its care since 2021. A major goal is to find homes for the many larger dogs, some of which have been at the shelter for nearly 500 days. To help, consider adopting or fostering a shelter pet. The facility also provides spay and neuter services for our cities of Chula Vista, National City, Imperial Beach, and Lemon Grove. Also available for free adoption at the event are cats, bunnies, hamsters, and some reptiles.

“The main goal of the celebration is to encourage as many adoptions as possible,” stated Viviana Castellanos, public information specialist for Chula Vista Animal Services. “Animal Services is also hoping the celebration will bring more awareness of the shelter, and the importance of adopting specifically from the Chula Vista shelter.”
