A new retail store, Curacao, is now open at the Chula Vista Center and has a whole day of activities planned for its grand opening on April 20, from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Curacao Chula Vista general manager Edgar Nasser said Curacao has been in operation for 40 years.
“We have clothes, electronics, furniture, a travel agency, financial services, games, computers, phones,” he said. “We have everything in the store. And we have credit. The blood of our store is credit. We are so excited to open this store, so on the 20th, we are going to give away a car. We will have beautiful promotions. We are super excited.”
Branded as the largest Hispanic-serving retailer on the West Coast, Nasser said that is true, and that he is extremely happy with this Chula Vista location.
“People believe everyone in our community is Hispanic, but they are not. We are a store for everybody,” he said.
At the grand opening, the event will feature special guest host, Emmy Award-winning Mario Lopez, alongside local talent and community leaders. Attendees can have a day filled with live entertainment, fashion shows, free concerts, and family-friendly activities.
From 10 a.m. to noon, the store will have “Doorbuster Deals” and the family can enjoy face painting, balloon artistry, live performers and unique photo opportunities, said Nasser.
From noon to 2 p.m. will be the Fashion Show Extravaganza, with the latest fashion trends from the store’s retailers, along with complimentary refreshments, and midday-exclusive retail deals.
From 2-8:30 p.m., children can engage with Power Wheels, Legos, inflatable structures, and more. There will be tents set up from local nonprofits and brand partners.
Entertainment for the day of festivities include performances by regional Mexican group Banda Los Sebastianes, Mexican American singer Luis Coronel, reggaeton artist Mariah Angleliq, and the Sierreno trio Conexion Divina. Finally, the grand finale will result in one person winning a brand-new car.
