The City of Chula Vista is now seeking artists and vendors to take part in the second annual Chula Vista ArtFest. The local art-themed event is scheduled to take place Saturday, Aug. 10, from noon to 6 p.m. at the City Hall Complex. Chula Vista ArtFest is a free-to-attend community event designed to celebrate the diversity and talent of local artists in Chula Vista and the South Bay. This year’s event will include an arts and crafts market, art showcase, live music, interactive art, live painting, food trucks, and more.

City of Chula Vista Cultural Arts Manager Erwin Magbanua said last year’s ArtFest was highly successful and expects this year to be even better.

“The purpose of ArtFest is to get the local community, Chula Vista, South Bay, to come together around the arts,” he said. “We will have art vendors. We have an art showcase, a wall of local art that is being curated right now by Steins Hallow Gallery. In addition to that, we will have food trucks, an interactive zone where people can come and make their own art for all ages. We will have different stations in the interactive zone. And we will have music. We have a stage there with three bands lined up, and hopefully we will have a surprise or two for people in performances.”

Magbanua said the purpose of this is to have a space in South Bay for people to come and enjoy the arts.

“Other places in San Diego have art festivals and it is our intention that this will be South Bay’s annual art event here in Chula Vista,” he said. “This is a free event, and we invite everybody to come and gather around art, speak with our artists, look at the art they are showing or selling. We want to recreate that magic that we had last year.”

Artists are invited to apply either as vendors to sell works at the arts and crafts market, or as exhibitors to display their pieces at the event’s art showcase. The art showcase is a curated exhibition that will take place during the event. Painters, sketch artists, cartoonists, photographers, ceramicists, muralists, and other artists who create 2D and 3D art are welcome to apply for ArtFest as vendors or art showcase exhibitors. There is no charge to artists selected for the art showcase. Vendor booths are available for $50 each. Space is limited and applications will be taken until capacity is reached.
